Overview
Your territory is the heart of your Once Human experience — it's your sanctuary, your factory, and your storage hub all in one. Choosing the right location and building an efficient layout saves hours of travel time and makes every other aspect of the game easier.
The ideal territory location provides a 'triple threat' of resources:
- Proximity to water — needed for cooking, water purification, and irrigation (unlocks farming later)
- Access to ore deposits — specifically copper and tin for early crafting, iron and coal for mid-game
- Flat building area — at least 10x10 meters of flat ground for your initial base, with room to expand
Additional considerations: proximity to a road (faster travel to points of interest), elevation (higher ground is easier to defend), and distance from high-level enemy spawn zones (avoid building near boss arenas or Deviant nests).
How to place your Territory Core: Craft it at the Workbench (requires 20 wood, 10 stone, 5 fiber). Equip it and place it on flat ground. The core creates a build radius of 20 meters — all structures within this radius are protected and can only be damaged by you (or clan members). Outside this radius, structures can be damaged by other players (on PvP servers) and enemies.
Getting Started
Choose your base size based on your playstyle and server type. Here are three proven layouts:
Small (5x5) — Solo / Beginner
Best for new players and solo survivors. Compact, easy to defend, and cheap to build.
- Ground floor: 2 Storage Crates, Workbench, Campfire, Bed
- Upper floor (optional): Research Table, additional storage
- Surrounding: 1 layer of wooden walls, 1 gate
- Cost: ~100 wood, ~40 stone, ~10 fiber
Medium (8x8) — Duo / Casual
Best for 2-3 players or players who want dedicated crafting areas.
- Ground floor: Storage room (4-6 crates), crafting room (Workbench + Research Table), kitchen (Campfire + Water Purifier + Cooking Station)
- Upper floor: Bedrooms (2 beds), Deviant pen, armor/weapon display
- Surrounding: 2 layers of walls (wood outer, stone inner), 2 gates, 2 watchtowers
- Power: 1 Generator + 4 Solar Panels
- Cost: ~300 wood, ~150 stone, ~50 metal, ~20 fiber
Large (12x12) — Clan / Endgame
Best for clans of 4+ players or endgame players with full power systems.
- Multiple buildings: Main hall, crafting wing, storage warehouse, Deviant barn, power plant, defensive walls
- Full power grid: 2-3 Generators, 8+ Solar Panels, battery storage
- Defense: 3 layers of walls (metal outer, stone middle, wood inner), 4+ watchtowers, turrets (if unlocked), spike traps
- Cost: ~800 wood, ~400 stone, ~200 metal, ~50 fiber
Step by Step
- Outer layer: Spike traps + wooden palisades. Slow down attackers and deal passive damage.
- Middle layer: Stone/metal walls with watchtowers. Towers give you high ground for ranged defense.
- Inner layer: Your core building with the Territory Core. Keep your most valuable storage inside.
- Automated (Lv.20+): Auto-turrets that target enemies within range. Requires power and ammunition.
Power becomes available at level 10 with the Generator unlock. A well-designed power grid automates crafting, lighting, and defense.
Power System Components
| Component | Unlocks | Output/Capacity | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generator (Fuel) | Lv.10 | 500W continuous | 30 metal, 10 stone, 5 electronics |
| Solar Panel | Lv.15 | 200W (daytime only) | 20 metal, 5 glass, 3 electronics |
| Battery Bank | Lv.15 | 2000Wh storage | 40 metal, 10 electronics, 5 acid |
| Power Conduit | Lv.10 | Transmits power 10m | 2 metal, 1 rubber |
Defense Systems
Base defense is critical on PvP servers and for surviving enemy raids on all servers. Layer your defenses:
Pro Tips & Common Mistakes
✅ Pro Tips
- Build storage crates first — organized storage saves more time than any other upgrade.
- Place workbenches next to storage so crafting and sorting happen in one short loop.
- Use power conduits to connect generators to your workbenches — powered crafting is 2x faster.
- Build a bed as soon as possible — it sets your respawn point and gives a rested bonus when you log out there.
- On PvP servers, hide your Territory Core inside a locked inner room — if it's destroyed, you lose your entire territory.
⚠️ Avoid These Mistakes
- Don't build your first base as a mansion — a compact 5x5 is more efficient and easier to defend.
- Don't place generators indoors without ventilation — they produce carbon monoxide that drains your health.
- Don't forget to lock your storage crates on PvP servers — unlocked crates can be looted by anyone.
- Don't build on water's edge on PvE servers — some enemies can swim and attack from the water.
- Don't neglect wall maintenance — damaged walls have reduced defense and can be broken through faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I place my territory? +
The ideal territory location has three things: flat ground for building, proximity to fresh water, and access to early ore deposits (copper and tin). Look for areas near roads for faster travel, but avoid building directly on roads (they're common PvP ambush spots). Higher elevation is better for defense. Avoid building near high-level enemy spawn zones, boss arenas, or Deviant nests — these areas get raided frequently. On PvE servers, you can be more relaxed about location; on PvP servers, prioritize defensibility over resource proximity.
How do I power my base? +
Base power unlocks at level 10 with the Generator. Craft a Generator (30 metal, 10 stone, 5 electronics) and place it near your crafting area. Connect it to workbenches and devices using Power Conduits (2 metal, 1 rubber each). Generators run on fuel (wood, coal, or gasoline) and produce 500W. At level 15, unlock Solar Panels (200W each, daytime only) and Battery Banks (2000Wh storage) for a sustainable power grid. A typical medium base needs 1 Generator + 4 Solar Panels + 1 Battery Bank for 24/7 power.
